The MIFFC Trudeau fuel depot project

By René Robert, Project Superintendent.

The objective of the fuel depot project is to increase the fuel storage capacity for aircrafts at the Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport.

In the coming years, the airport intends to further improve its facilities and thus help alleviate the limited flexibility of the fuel depot.

In August 2016, our client, FSM, received approval and the necessary funds for the construction of two additional fuel tanks, each with a capacity of 5.5 million litres, and measuring 60 feet high by 60 feet wide. Given that the summer is the peak period for the airport, the commissioning of the two new tanks must be completed by June 1, 2017. In order to meet these tight deadlines, FSM hired DAWCO to oversee the management of the project. As such, our team must carefully examine and comment on engineering to optimize construction, submit bid proposals for various subcontractors and manage construction. A team of 15 professionals was deployed to carry out the mandate. Our site team, which includes my daughter Véronique Robert, has already completed civil works, the assembly of the tanks and welding, within the timelines and in spite of harsh winter conditions. The project will be completed on time, within budget and in accordance with quality standards.
